Freshly caught seafood, locally sourced and seasonally available fruits and vegetables, augmented by the produce from our own gardens, are the foundation of our dishes.

Ranging from traditional rice and curry with our special touch, to sumptuous international fair and desserts, the quality of meals prepared at Ranawara has been notedby all our guests. We take pride in maintaining these standards of excellence.

Partnering with local fisherman, we ensure the freshness of the daily catch which might include rock lobsters, calamari, crab, tuna, shrimp, and a variety of other seafood.

Free range chicken, locally nurtured pork, and mutton as well as other meats are also available to add variety to our dishes.

About the Chefs

Leading our kitchen team are chefs Chamara and Rohan. With many years of experience, these two lynchpins conjure up some of Ranawara’s signature dishes and have been praised for their inventiveness, attention to detail and versatility.

They are equally comfortable preparing traditional Sri Lankan fare as they are at contemporary international cuisine. They also enjoy experimenting with flavours and trying out new recipes to ensure that each meal is a special experience.


Sri Lankan Food

Sri Lanka boasts some of the finest spices and aromatics in the world: cinnamon, cloves, cardamoms, peppers, coriander and chillies are found in abundance, although it is the curry leaf and pandam leaf that offer the most distinctive and pungent flavours.

Our Sri Lankan menu is based around a variety of rice and curry dishes, supplemented by our home made breads, chutneys and fresh sambols (accompaniments / side dishes).

The capabilities of our chefs are not limited to local cuisine however and a range of contemporary international cuisine from the east, west and the Mediterranean have received acclaim from our guests.


Dining Arrangements

Meals can be served in the informal yet refined setting of our dining room overlooking the pool or taken al fresco in our dinning pavilion surrounded by the foliage of the garden.

Our guests are offered the flexibility of sampling the full range of items available in our larder for their daily meals or consulting with our managers on bespoke menus.

Cooking Lessons

For an immersive culinary experience, our guests can join the chef as he visits the local market in our very own Tuk-Tuk, learn about the local produce, benefits and traditional uses, before returning to Ranawara for an interactive cooking session.
